The County Cricket 2021 Thread
Snow showers this week can only mean one thing - County Cricket is back.

First year of the new County Championship format - three seeded groups of six teams, playing each other twice. Top two progress to Division One, second two to D2, bottom two to D3. Teams in each division then play four games (against the teams they weren’t in the initial group with) - winner of D1 gets the CC trophy, and the top two of D1 go to Lord’s for the Bob Willis Trophy Final.

Then of course we have the T20 Blast and One Day Cup later on. Plus that Hundred nonsense.

And to appease those who wonder what this has to do with West Ham, here’s a video of our very own Tomas Soucek wishing Essex good luck for the season: https://twitter.com/essexcricket/status/1380080437343703040?s=21

I like the new County Championship format but I fail to see the point of the Bob Willis Trophy match at Lord's when the County Championship has already been won. Just another money spinner I suppose.

Given England's experience in India Somerset should be given free reign to prepare 'DRY' pitches without penalty.
FOR THE GOOD OF ENGLAND PLAYERS

If India dont get sanctioned why should Somerset?

Sir A Cook averaging 15 for the season

It's more likely to snow in the UK in April than in November, there was a cricket match years ago stopped by SNOW in June.

COME ON KENT!

Re: The County Cricket 2021 Thread
The three-division format is overkill because the second-stage matches look and feel contrived.

County cricket is weak and needs an overhaul - but this is not the solution. Should be two divisions, one for the north and Midlands, one for the south.

Scrap at least two of the financially unviable counties: Worcestershire and Northants, which (alongside others) get massively bailed out by the ECB each year.

Two divisions of eight, play each side home and away - 14 four day games.

ONE overseas player per county (in any format).

Winner of each division plays a "test" match for the county championship.

Simple.

Anyway, regardless, get in there Essex!

Did it rain in Chelmsford yesterday?

Seemed like a paltry amount of innings bowled, yet the weather was glorious where I am 20 miles away.
